Specialist Blood Tests at Menopause Care

Your clinician may recommend a blood test in specific situations, such as:

• Starting testosterone replacement therapy – You will need a baseline testosterone blood test before starting treatment, followed by tests at 3 months and 12 months. If your levels are high at any stage, more frequent monitoring may be required.
• Assessing how well your HRT is working – If your symptoms are not improving as expected, a blood test can help determine whether you are absorbing oestrogen effectively.
• Confirming premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) – If you are under 40 and experiencing menopause symptoms, a blood test can help confirm a diagnosis of POI.

FFor most women over 40, a blood test is not required for a diagnosis. We focus on your clinical symptoms and history. However, hormone testing for perimenopause can be useful to rule out other issues, like thyroid dysfunction or iron deficiency, which can often mimic menopause symptoms.

While blood tests are not typically used to diagnose menopause, they can be helpful in certain situations, including:

• Ruling out other conditions - Symptoms of menopause can overlap with other health issues such as low iron, thyroid disorders, and vitamin D deficiency. Blood tests can help identify these alternative causes.
• Screening overall health - In some cases, a doctor may recommend blood tests to assess your broader health and confirm there are no underlying medical issues contributing to your symptoms.

We partner with a wide network of UK clinics to make testing accessible. Once you submit your request, we’ll find the most convenient local blood testing clinic for you. If you don't have a clinic nearby, we can arrange a private home nurse visit for a small additional fee (£20) to collect your sample.

If a clinic visit is unavailable in your area, we can arrange a home nurse visit for an additional £20. All blood test options and associated fees are subject to local provider availability and will be confirmed by our team before your appointment.

Our patient care team will ensure that any blood tests results ordered through us are recorded in your patient file for your doctor to review before your follow-up appointment.

• You can request your GP takes your bloods for you but they are not under any obligation to do so, it is a favour rather than an expectation. In addition, they may not have access to all the bloods, particularly SHBG.
• You will need to take responsibility for having them done in good time for your appointment and for the results to be sent to us.
• We send all details of the bloods required in the clinic letter. Should your GP request this information please direct them to the clinic letter which you and they will have a copy of.

Most private clinics will not allow patients to have bloods done outside of their own clinic due to additional administrative work.

• We do allow this because we try to make our service accessible to as many women as possible, but we cannot take responsibility for accessing results for bloods not generated by us.

Please note that the prices listed for our blood panels cover the laboratory test itself. There is a separate fee for the blood draw (phlebotomy) service:

• In-Clinic Visit: £40
• Home Visit: £60 (added to your chosen test package)

Additional Requirements
If your clinician requests extra markers (as outlined in your clinic letter), any remaining balance will be invoiced following your initial payment. Our team will guide you through this and confirm all final costs when booking your appointment.

Patients on our monthly subscription plans can request blood tests at any time through this page. Your subscription ensures your results are integrated into your ongoing care plan and reviewed by your dedicated specialist. We understand that plans change. You can cancel your blood test request at any time; however, please note that any cancellations made more than 48 hours after your payment has been processed will incur a £10 administration fee.
